Winter Lecture Series – April 14, 2017 5:00 p.m.

  • Peter Goin, author, photographer, and University of Nevada, Reno Foundation Professor will speak on One Hundred Years of Shoreline: Rephotography and Lake Tahoe: Travel in time through photograph as the 1916 Lake Tahoe Shoreline Survey reappears in Professor Peter Goin’s photographs of nearly the identical site!  One hundred years ago, photographer H.T. Cowling’s 150 photographs showed conditions on the shores of the lake with the water at its maximum level and helped property owners present their complaints about the lake’s elevation.  Many people look at Tahoe and assume it’s the same as it used to be, but it’s not.  There are places where the beach is different, creeks enter the lake at different locations and the shorelines have been mediated by property owners.  Professor Peter Goin will present visually entertaining comparative views of then, and now.  Travel through time, at least for a little while, at Tahoe Maritime Museum.
  • This event is FREE and open to the public!
