The Museum Building

Twenty years ago, five dedicated volunteers started the Tahoe Maritime Museum with a vision of preserving and presenting Lake Tahoe´s rich maritime history. Since then, many have pitched in to donate boats, artifacts, memories, materials, funding and countless hours to keep the museum going strong. Now, two decades later, we have launched an exciting new era for the Tahoe Maritime Museum, with the constructionof a new 5,800 square foot home in Homewood, California.

The exterior of our new museum is reminiscent of an old boathouse, well-suited to its Lake Tahoe surroundings, with a spacious open interior design that allows visitors to explore the boats in our unique exhibits from all angles. Our youngest visitors can engage in hands-on activities to better understand maritime history in their own dedicated children´s area and school groups will participate in programs designed to complement the learning that happens inside their classrooms. Our new building also includes a community meeting area that can host a variety of events and offer a warm and welcoming place to gather. Most of all, the new building allows the Tahoe Maritime Museum to continue our tradition or providing a fun, family-friendly destination for the Lake Tahoe community and visitors to our beautiful region.

New Building Campaign

We are in the Capstone phase of our New Building Campaign, where we are raising the final $300,000 to offset the capital costs of the new museum. By becoming a donor to the Tahoe Maritime Museum's New Building Campaign, you will be contributing to the vital process of preserving the past for future generations. And we still have a few naming opportunities available for gifts ranging between $25,000 and $50,000.

To date, we have received generous donations from individuals and organizations, including the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association and the California Cultural and Historical Endowment.

Please join us in this effort to make Tahoe's maritime history come to life and live forever. Donation forms are available here. Wire transfers and stock donations are also welcome.
